The story behind the Kelly
Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.
Discover Hermès Kelly BagsExuding the storied elegance of the House of Hermès, this Kelly 25 Sellier effortlessly merges heritage craftsmanship with contemporary allure. The structured silhouette is meticulously fashioned from noir Box leather, contrasted by an intricate silver crinoline weave that lends both texture and visual depth.
A timeless, this Kelly 25 is a worthy addition to any curated collection, embodying the essence of refinement in a perfectly scaled design. Must be seen in person to fully appreciate the silver luminescence, this is the rarest Crinoline combination.
Collector's Insight:
The Kelly in Silver Noir Leather Crinoline carries the lineage of the original 1930s sac à dépêches, renamed the Kelly in 1956. Sellier construction is produced in smaller quantities than Retourne.
Resale Insight:
The market demand for Kelly bags, particularly in the 25cm size, continues to outpace supply. This specific configuration is a staple for collectors seeking a balance of heritage and contemporary style.
