Hermès Kelly 20 Mini Picnic White, Swift & Osier Wicker Palladium Hardware
The Picnic replaces the Kelly's leather body panels with hand-woven willow set into a Swift frame; the flap, handle, sangles, clochette and base edges stay leather.

The story behind the Kelly
Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.
Discover Hermès Kelly BagsThe wicker is left in its natural state, and against White Swift it adds warmth to an otherwise cool palette.
Swift is a smooth calfskin with almost no visible grain, which gives a clean, flat line where leather meets wicker. The woven body is set into the leather framework rather than attached to its surface, and palladium hardware finishes the turn-lock in the same cool register as the White Swift.
Collector's Insight:
The Picnic Kelly first appeared in 2011, designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, as a 35 cm bag in Fauve Barenia and Osier wicker, and the format came to the Kelly 20 in 2019. Each piece takes two crafts, a leather artisan for the Swift and a basket weaver for the wicker, which keeps output below that of standard leather Kellys.
Resale Insight:
Wicker is more fragile than leather and cannot be restored once it splits or discolors, so buyers inspect the weave for breaks, loose ends and color change before anything else.
