Autruche: Exotic skin is not interchangeable with other leathers for treatment: a product intended for one may be unsuitable for another. Protect from humidity, prolonged light and extreme heat, and seek an appropriate assessment before treatment. Care Guide

The story behind the Kelly

Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.

Jaune Citron is Hermès' saturated lemon yellow, bright without tipping into neon, closer to citrus peel than to highlighter. On ostrich the quill follicles catch light differently than the surrounding skin, breaking the color into tonal variation that keeps a flat yellow from reading flat. Sellier construction holds the rigid panels and external stitching that define the crisp version of the Kelly silhouette.

Ostrich sits lighter in hand than most leathers at equal thickness and develops a soft sheen with age rather than showing wear patterns. At 20cm the follicle distribution is sparser than on larger formats, so the texture reads as fine and refined rather than pronounced, and Palladium hardware cools the warm yellow a half-step.

Collector's Insight:
Exotic Mini Kelly IIs in saturated colors occupy a specific collector niche: the material signals rarity, the color signals intent. Jaune Citron in ostrich shows the skin's capacity for vivid saturation while the quill texture keeps the brightness dimensional, a statement specification rather than a neutral everyday choice. The II revision is the current Mini Kelly construction, and in exotic it draws the smallest allocation of the format.

Resale Insight:
Yellow exotics trade to a narrower buyer pool than neutrals but command strong prices within it, since collectors seeking this exact pairing are not cross-shopping against other colors. The Mini Kelly 20 II holds among the highest demand of any current Kelly format, and a pristine recent-production ostrich example carries none of the quill-drying or scale-lift concerns that affect older exotic pieces.
