The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsThe Hermès Club Birkin 30 represents a bold, modern chapter in the Maison's history, released following the success of the celebrated Candy Collection. This 2011 limited edition reimagines the classic silhouette with a sporty, kinetic energy, featuring a distinctive color-blocked design. The body is crafted from White (Blanc) and Gris Perle Clémence Leather, creating a cool, neutral canvas that is dramatically interrupted by two vertical stripes of Sanguine Lizard.
The inclusion of Lizard skin, a precious exotic material, elevates this piece from a standard leather bag to a collector's item. The bright, blood-orange hue of the Sanguine lizard scales provides a sharp, sophisticated contrast against the soft, matte grain of the Clémence. Finished with contemporary Palladium Hardware, this "Club" edition captures the spirit of heritage luxury infused with a modern, athletic sensibility.
Collector's Insight:
The Club Birkin is a time-capsule piece. Produced for a short window starting in 2011/2012, it showcases Hermès' willingness to experiment with mixed materials, a precursor to the later "Touch" and "Sunrise" editions. Finding a Club Birkin in excellent condition is rare; finding one that incorporates Lizard skin (a material usually reserved for small goods or full exotic bags) makes it particularly special for the completist collector.
Resale Insight:
Limited edition Birkins with exotic trims generally outperform standard leather bags in value retention. The visual distinctiveness of the Club's stripes makes it instantly recognizable. The White and Gray colorway with the pop of Sanguine is considered one of the most wearable and desirable configurations of this limited run.
