The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.

In Box calf, polished and smooth, the dark green gains depth and a soft gleam, and gold hardware warms it. At 40 cm the Birkin is a true travel and work bag.
Collector's Insight:
A Box calf Birkin in a deep vintage green is a different proposition from current production: the leather, the color and the larger size all belong to an earlier period of the house.
Resale Insight:
Box shows scratches and press marks readily, though light marks can be polished, so buyers check the flap, corners and handles first; at 40 cm the base corners take the most wear.
