A bicolor ostrich Birkin, a configuration Hermès no longer makes. The body is Rouge Vif ostrich, the house's vivid true red carrying the quill-follicle texture across every panel, with Noir ostrich set against it at the handles, flap edge, and sangles. Two-tone exotic Birkins came out of an era when the house combined colors on its most expensive skins, a practice long since retired from the catalog.
Ostrich is among the most durable exotics, developing a soft sheen with handling rather than wear patterns, which is why examples from this period still present strongly. Gold hardware bridges the red and black, and the interior is lined in Chèvre. The Rouge Vif and Noir pairing is the boldest of the documented bicolor ostrich combinations, red carrying the bag and black drawing its outline.

Collector's Insight:
Bicolor exotic Birkins occupy a closed chapter: Hermès built them in limited numbers and discontinued the practice, so the surviving examples are the entire supply. Ostrich bicolors are rarer still than the croc versions, and Rouge Vif with Noir is the configuration collectors of the era's pieces recognize first, the two-tone treatment on the skin most capable of surviving decades of carry.
Resale Insight:
Discontinued configurations trade on the impossibility of replacement: no allocation, no special order, no waiting produces another bicolor ostrich Birkin. The 35 is the format these were built in, ostrich's durability keeps strong examples in circulation-ready condition, and an excellent example with its lock, keys, clochette, and dust bag is as complete as the configuration realistically survives.
