The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsEach panel carries its own texture, so the greens shift from matte to glossy across the bag.
Inside, a Rose Azalée lining contrasts with the greens, and palladium hardware keeps the palette cool. At 30 cm the Birkin keeps its classic proportions and carries a full day's essentials.
Collector's Insight:
Patchwork Birkins combine several leathers and exotic skins in one composition, so each example is unique in its color placement and choice of materials, and the Rose Azalée interior adds a contrast the exterior does not show.
Resale Insight:
Patchwork exotics trade on singularity: each composition is unique, and pricing reflects that rather than comparables. Buyers check the seams where the leathers meet and the crocodile panels for scale damage.
