Hermès Airsilk Backpack Cavalcadour Blue Zanzibar Technical Silk
Hermès Airsilk Backpack Cavalcadour Blue Zanzibar Technical Silk
Cavalcadour is one of the great equestrian designs in the Hermès scarf archive, a dense arrangement of bits, buckles, harness and bridle ornament drawn by Henri d'Origny. On a square of silk it is a flat composition. Wrapped around a backpack it becomes something else entirely: the pattern has to negotiate seams, straps and volume, and the effect is a bag that carries a scarf rather than a bag that borrows a print.
Technical silk is the material story. Hermès weaves silk into a ripstop-style textile, then treats it so the panel is waterproof and the zips are water-repellent, producing a bag that weighs almost nothing and still sheds weather. It is the opposite proposition to the house's leather program: where a Togo Birkin gains character through wear, this is built to resist it. Padded, adjustable shoulder straps and a structured silhouette carry the print without distorting it.
Blue Zanzibar gives the print a deep, green-shifted blue ground, dark enough to hold the fine linework of the Cavalcadour drawing without letting it dissolve into the field.

Collector's Insight: The Airsilk line is where the silk métier and the leather goods métier actually meet in a single object, rather than one supplying a lining or a twilly for the other. That makes it a document of how Hermès thinks about its own divisions. It also sits outside the quota system entirely, so ownership reflects interest in the design rather than position in a queue.
Resale Insight: This sells to the Hermès scarf collector more reliably than to the handbag collector, because the value proposition is the Cavalcadour design in an unusual format. Pristine grade matters more here than on a leather bag: technical silk does not develop patina, so any wear reads as damage rather than as character, and there is no restoration path back.
