Jean Paul Gaultier designed the Shoulder Birkin during his years at Hermès, stretching the Birkin into a long, shallow silhouette meant to ride on the shoulder rather than the arm. At 42 cm across it reads closer to a portfolio than a handbag, with the handles set long enough to clear a coat. The format was discontinued and has never returned.
Bleu Jean is the soft washed denim blue Hermès ran through the 2000s and retired, a shade with enough grey in it to sit as a neutral rather than a statement. On Togo the raised matte grain holds the color without reflecting it, and the contrast stitching traces the elongated panels. Palladium keeps the register cool.
Front toggle closure with two straps, double rolled handles, clochette with lock and two keys. Interior lined in Bleu Jean Chèvre with a zip pocket and two flat pockets. Protective plastic remains on the hardware.

Collector's Insight: The JPG Shoulder Birkin is a closed chapter: discontinued, never reissued, and produced in far smaller numbers than the standard sizes it sits beside. Bleu Jean is likewise retired, so both the format and the color are unavailable through any current route. Gaultier-era pieces are tracked as their own category rather than as older stock.
Resale Insight: Discontinued formats trade on how rarely they surface rather than on configuration demand, and the Shoulder Birkin appears infrequently in any leather. A soft retired blue widens the buyer pool relative to a statement color, and remaining hardware plastic is evidence of light use on a bag this age.
