The story behind the Kelly Pocket
Hermès straps and belts that carry a small Kelly-flap pocket, such as the Kelly Pocket bag strap 50 mm.
Read the Kelly Pocket referenceThat is the whole argument for this belt: it carries the most recognizable piece of hardware the house makes, at a scale that reads as jewelry rather than luggage.
The pouch is the part most people underestimate. It slides off, so the belt works as a plain Kelly belt whenever you want one, and slides back on when you want somewhere to put a card or a lipstick. Rendered in shearling it stops being discreet: a natural teddy pelt against Gold Epsom is a deliberately cold-weather object, which is what separates this version from the plain Epsom Kelly Pocket.
The closure slides rather than buckling through punched holes, so the same strap sits high at the waist or drops onto the hips depending on how it is worn.
Collector's Insight:
Hermès runs the Kelly Pocket as a rotating seasonal exercise rather than a fixed line. Filou, Quadrige and multicolor Epsom versions have each had their season, and Teddy is the shearling entry. The pelt ties it to one part of the year in a way the plain leather versions are not tied.
Resale Insight:
Fit is not the constraint here that it is on a conventional belt. The sliding closure covers roughly 60 to 100 cm, so a single unit suits most buyers and the pool is never cut down by size. What makes this one particular is the shearling, and particular objects tend to find fewer but more committed buyers than plain Epsom does.
