The So Kelly arrived in Fall Winter 2008 as the maison's rethinking of the Kelly Sport: a bucket silhouette carrying the Kelly turn-lock and sangle across the front, built to sit flat against the body on a single adjustable strap. It is the most relaxed bag in the Kelly family and the least often seen, since it was produced in modest numbers alongside the core line rather than in place of it.

In exotic the bag becomes something else entirely. The So Kelly's standard run was Togo, Clemence and Fjord, with exotics a small fraction of output, and a soft bucket body is the hardest possible shape to execute in alligator: the skin has to be matched across a curved panel with no structural seams to hide a transition, which is straightforward on a flat Kelly front and unforgiving here. Gris Paris is the cool mid grey of the Hermès greys, and matte finish suits it, holding the scale relief as texture rather than shine. Palladium keeps the metal cool against it.

Collector's Insight: Two scarcities stack here. The So Kelly is itself a low-production silhouette that Hermès has since let recede, so the supply is closed at whatever was built during its run. Committing exotic allocation to it is rarer again, because exotic quota goes overwhelmingly to the Birkin and Kelly, where the return on a hide is highest. A grey rather than a black or brown narrows it a third time. Matte alligator also cannot be refinished the way a shiny finish can be re-polished, so the condition a bag arrives in is close to the condition it keeps.

Resale Insight: This does not price against the core Kelly line, because nobody cross-shops a bucket shoulder bag with a 28. It trades among collectors who already hold the staples and are buying a silhouette they cannot easily find again, which makes the audience narrow and comparables thin: examples in exotic surface years apart rather than seasonally, so each appearance carries unusual weight in setting the reference.
