The story behind the Kelly
Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.
Discover Hermès Kelly BagsOver the years, its popularity has only soared, with demand for the bag persisting. To cater to this demand, Hermès has maintained a limited production of the Mini Kelly II, releasing small, seasonally-changing batches in various colors. The Mini Kelly II Verso in Blue Deep Chèvre leather, featuring an Ebène interior and Palladium Hardware, is a magnificent addition to any Hermès collector's repertoire. "Ebène" translates to "ebony" in French and represents a rich, deep brown color that embodies refinement and adaptability. This hue can be found across a range of Hermès products, such as bags, belts, shoes, and accessories.
In addition, the JANEFINDS Cuban Crossbody Chain, or the JANEFINDS Beaded Semi-Precious Crossbody Chain is the perfect accessory for this Hermès Kelly Mini II. These chains are a versatile and stylish option that can be easily attached to the bag's strap hooks, allowing the bag to be worn as a chic crossbody or shoulder bag. These chains add an extra touch of refinement and luxury to the already elegant Kelly Mini II.
Collector's Insight:
The Kelly carries the lineage of the original 1930s sac à dépêches, renamed the Kelly in 1956. Sellier construction is produced in smaller quantities than Retourne.
Resale Insight:
The market demand for Kelly bags, particularly in the 20cm size, continues to outpace supply. This specific configuration is a staple for collectors seeking a balance of heritage and contemporary style.
