Hermès Jige PM 20 Matte Fauve Niloticus Crocodile
Hermès Jige PM 20 Fauve Matte Niloticus Crocodile
Fauve is a warm saddle-tan with historical weight in the Hermès palette, drawn from the equestrian saddlery roots that predate the leather goods program. On matte Niloticus the color absorbs into the scale field with a velvet depth that shiny finishes trade for reflective brilliance. White contrast stitching threads the construction, a detail typically reserved for heritage leathers like Barenia and giving the exotic an unexpected casual register against the precious skin.
The matte finish is produced through buffing with wool felt rather than the agate-stone polishing that creates shiny exotics, softening the scale surface and absorbing rather than reflecting light. The Jige is the long clutch silhouette designed by Jean Guerrand, with the H-tab flap closure and no metal hardware. Lined in tonal Chèvre. The 20 cm format is the smallest Jige size, sized for evening carry. The original record dates this piece circa 2004.

Collector's Insight: Matte Niloticus Jiges from the early 2000s appear infrequently on the secondary market because the format was produced in small quantities relative to the Birkin and Kelly, and exotic Jiges specifically receive tight allocation. Fauve in matte exotic is a documented vintage colorway that has not been part of the contemporary Jige catalog for years. White contrast stitching on Niloticus is an unusual specification for the period, which adds a separate identifier for collectors tracking variant production.
Resale Insight: Exotic Jiges trade to collectors building exotic-clutch lanes within larger Hermès collections rather than first-time exotic buyers. Matte finishes have moved ahead of shiny in collector preference over recent years for their understated reading, and warm tans like Fauve translate well to year-round carry rather than seasonal use.
