The story behind the Bolide
Hermès dates the Bolide to 1923 and ties its rounded, zipped design to motor travel; it was the first Hermès bag closed by a zipper. Made in miniature, handbag and travel sizes.
Discover Hermès Bolide BagsA unique piece originally created for Hermès Parisian window display. The body is printed velvet in red, orange, brown, and burgundy tones depicting the Soies Volantes pattern of floating silk scarves and Asian-inspired motifs. Rouge H Box Calfskin on the handles, piping, and structural elements. Interior lined in Vieux Rose Doblis with gold-stamped Hermès Paris insignia.
Collector's Insight:
This Bolide was produced as a one-off for Hermès window display, not standard production. Loïc Dubigeon designed the Soies Volantes motif, which appeared across Hermès scarves and select special commissions. Finding this piece in private circulation is a function of the display piece eventually being released from Hermès's own collection. There is no production run to reference.
Resale Insight:
Unique Hermès display and commission pieces trade as standalone collectibles outside standard Bolide pricing. Provenance as a house-produced one-off for Hermès's own Parisian windows places this in a category with museum-deaccessioned and archive pieces rather than secondary market handbags.
