The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsTangerine is Hermès's saturated orange, brighter and more vivid than standard Orange, pushing toward citrus intensity. Ostrich's characteristic quill pattern creates texture across the surface; the raised bumps where feathers were removed catch light differently than smooth leather. On a saturated color like Tangerine, the quills add dimensional depth. Interior lined in Orange Chèvre.
Palladium hardware cools the warm orange slightly. The compact 25cm size shows ostrich's quill pattern at concentrated scale; the texture reads clearly without requiring the larger surface area of 30 or 35cm formats.
Collector's Insight:
Ostrich Birkin 25s in saturated colors appeal to collectors seeking exotic material with visual impact. Tangerine is bolder than neutral ostrich tones, a statement color on an already distinctive texture. The full accessory set indicates careful ownership.
Resale Insight:
Exotic Birkin 25s trade at premiums over leather equivalents. Saturated orange in ostrich has narrower audience than neutral tones but commands attention from collectors seeking specific color profiles. Excellent condition with complete accessories supports strong positioning.
