The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.

At 30 cm the Birkin holds a day's essentials, and palladium hardware keeps the saturated color crisp. Inside, it is lined in chèvre with a zip pocket and an open pocket.

Bright pinks on matte alligator are made in far smaller numbers than neutrals, and the matte finish keeps a saturated color wearable by day.
Resale Insight:
Saturated colors show scuffs and fading more readily than neutrals, so buyers look at the corners, the handle bases and the flap edge, where alligator cannot be resurfaced.
