The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsQuadrille is a woven canvas in which colored threads interlace in a fine checked grid. Here the weave alternates Bleu de Malte and Noir, so the textile reads as deep navy from a distance and shows its check up close.
Noir Swift frames the canvas at the corners, handles, flap, sangles and base, its smooth surface a good match for the dry hand of the toile, and palladium hardware keeps the dark palette cool.
Collector's Insight:
Quadrille Birkins are seasonal editions, each with its own thread colors, and Bleu de Malte with Noir is one of the most subdued versions of the format.
