The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsThroughout its storied history, Hermès has embraced a spectrum of blues, each a nuanced interpretation of the hue. Blue Cobalt, with its deep, vibrant intensity, has emerged over the years as a symbol of contemporary elegance while echoing the brand’s longstanding dedication to sophisticated color narratives. This signature shade has been periodically reintroduced in limited-edition pieces, mirroring Hermès’ tradition of blending timeless design with seasonally inspired exclusivity.
Collector's Insight:
Blue Cobalt is one of Hermès’ most coveted blue shades, prized for its versatility and vibrance. Especially desirable in the compact Birkin 25 format, it’s a color that appeals to collectors seeking both timeless wearability and a pop of sophisticated color. This 2012, Square P edition, in Excellent condition, offers the opportunity to add an elusive, highly wearable blue to any world-class Hermès collection.
Resale Insight:
The Birkin 25 is among the most consistently traded formats in the resale market. In a durable leather like Togo, it is built to be carried regularly rather than saved for occasions.
