Vintage Hermès Kelly 28 Sellier Black Box Gold Hardware "The Qashqai" JaneFinds Custom Shop

A vintage Kelly 28 as canvas. The base is Noir Box Sellier, Hermès' original smooth calfskin, chosen deliberately: Box takes pigment with a saturation and edge definition that grained leathers cannot hold, and its semi-gloss surface makes the color sit up rather than sink in. The JaneFinds Custom Shop commissioned hand-painted artwork across the front, sides, back, and flap, working the black leather as negative space rather than covering it.

"The Qashqai" takes its name from the nomadic weaving traditions of southern Iran. Stylized flora, camels, birds, stars, rosettes, and geometric tribal motifs are distributed in ochre, rust, azure, and cream at the density and rhythm of a hand-knotted kilim, so the surface reads as textile translated onto leather rather than as decoration applied to it. The handle and sangles are left unpainted in clean black Box with red edge finishing, which keeps the Kelly's structure legible beneath the artwork.

Gold hardware aligns with the warm palette. Vintage production of this size predates the shoulder strap, so the bag was built as a top-handle piece.
