The story behind the Rodeo
Hermès' horse-shaped leather bag charm, a nod to the house's equestrian origins, made in Milo lambskin, the supple leather Hermès uses for gloves. Produced in three sizes: PM (9.7 × 7.8 cm), MM (12.7 × 10.5 cm) and GM. Variants include the winged Pegase and the Rodeo Touch with an alligator saddle.
Discover Hermès CharmsThe Hermès Rodeo PM Rock Charm in Ombre Lizard and Milo Lambskin with Palladium Studs is a limited edition variant of the classic Rodeo charm. The standard Rodeo features smooth leather throughout, while the Rock version incorporates exotic lizard skin on the saddle portion with palladium pyramid studs. Ombre Lizard refers to gradient-dyed lizard skin that transitions from lighter to darker tones across the scales.
The body, legs, head, and tail are crafted in Milo lambskin, a smooth lambskin with soft hand. The saddle section features Ombre Lizard with palladium studs creating a textured contrast. The Rodeo charm attaches to bags via a leather cord with lobster clasp. PM (Petit Modèle) is the small size, measuring approximately 6cm in height. This is a bag charm/accessory rather than a functional item.
Collector's Insight:
The Rodeo Rock charm is significantly rarer than standard leather Rodeo charms. Production is limited due to the lizard skin component and hand-applied studs. The Ombre Lizard version is rarer than solid-color lizard variations. Rodeo charms were introduced as playful bag accessories and have become collectible items independent of bags. The PM size is the most common and wearable size. Condition matters;lizard skin shows wear and the studs can tarnish or loosen over time.
Resale Insight:
Exotic Rodeo charms trade at significant premiums over leather versions;typically 3-5x standard leather Rodeo pricing. The Rock variant with studs adds another premium layer. These appeal to collectors who accessorize Hermès bags or collect charms independently. The Rodeo has become an icon beyond its original function, with rare versions commanding collector interest. Ombre Lizard specifically appeals to those seeking gradient effects rather than solid exotic colors. Market is narrower than bags but consistent among accessory collectors.
