The Passe-Guide takes its name from the harness ring that guides the reins, and its front turns that equestrian hardware into a face: the gold turn-lock reads as a smiling mouth, flanked by decorative fittings. This vintage example is built in Sellier construction, with outward stitching holding its rounded shape.
It is made in shiny porosus crocodile, marked with the caret symbol, in Ebène, a deep blackened brown that reads warmer and softer than Noir. The polished scales and gold hardware give the dark color its glow.
Collector's Insight:
The Passe-Guide belongs to an earlier chapter of Hermès design, when equestrian fittings were turned into playful, figurative hardware. In shiny porosus it pairs that wit with the house's most formal crocodile.
