The story behind the Kelly
Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.
Discover Hermès Kelly BagsRouge Tomate is a bright, warm red with orange undertones, closer to a true tomato red than the deeper Rouge Casaque or the cooler Rouge Vif. On Epsom the color holds vivid and even across the pressed grain.
Sellier construction gives the Kelly 20 Mini II a rigid, compact silhouette with crisp edges, and gold hardware warms the red further.

Rouge Tomate was made for a limited number of seasons and has left the current palette, and its orange lean sets it apart from the house's other reds.
