The story behind the Kelly Doll
Designed by Jean-Louis Dumas and introduced in 2000; its other name, Quelle Idole, is a play on Kelly Doll. Hermès made limited runs from 2008 to 2010 to mark boutique openings, five pieces for the 2015 Leather Forever exhibition in Singapore, special orders from 2017, and the redesigned Kelly Doll Picto in Spring/Summer 2022.
Discover Hermès Kelly DollThe Kelly Doll turns the Kelly into a figure: the turn-lock reads as a nose, the sangles become arms and sculpted feet let it stand upright. This is the original 2000 edition in Rouge Vif, a pure, saturated red, carried by hand with no strap.
It is made in Gulliver, a smooth calfskin Hermès has since discontinued, which takes the red with an even density later leathers handle differently. Palladium hardware keeps the face cool against the color.

Collector's Insight:
The first Kelly Dolls were made in Gulliver across all their colorways, and Rouge Vif was among the original launch colors. The later Picto reissue is in Epsom, so the red Gulliver version belongs to the first generation only.
Resale Insight:
On a first-generation Doll, buyers check the Gulliver for dryness and corner wear, and the sculpted feet and arms for scuffs, since the figurative parts take the most handling.
