The joke that became a grail, in its second act. After the transparent 1997 original, Hermès issued the Souvenir de l'Exposition Kelly again in 1998, this time in saturated translucent orange, the house's own signature shade rendered see-through. The 40cm frame, flap, sangles and turn-lock profile of the formal Kelly are faithfully reproduced in vinyl, trading discretion for wit, with the flap printed Souvenir de l'Exposition 1998 and a gold-tone Kelly turn lock closing the front.

This example retains its original brown canvas insert printed with the 1998 exhibition theme, Un Voyage au Pays des Merveilles, visible through the vinyl as part of the design and lending the piece its full documentary context. As with all surviving vinyl Kellys, condition is the story: transparency is unforgiving, and clean examples of a nearly thirty-year-old novelty are genuinely scarce.
