The story behind the Kelly
Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.

The first delicate light blue shade Hermès has produced since Blue Arctic in the early 2000’s, Blue Glacier gives off a cool refinement, flashing gray and silver under a delicate blue gossamer that holds all the tonalities of this shade together. In Epsom leather and topped with Palladium Hardware like a glint of the sun above, this 28cm piece of arctic ice is in pristine condition.
Sellier construction produces crisp, defined edges through external stitching. The 28cm Kelly is the most classic proportion for the silhouette. Interior is lined in matching Chevre leather with one zip pocket and two slip pockets. Single top handle with detachable shoulder strap.
Collector's Insight:
The Kelly in Blue Glacier Epsom carries the lineage of the original 1930s sac à dépêches, renamed the Kelly in 1956. Sellier construction is produced in smaller quantities than Retourne.
