The story behind the Kelly
Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.
Discover Hermès Kelly BagsThe Sellier construction emphasizes sharp lines and a sleek profile, while the classic Hermès Orange color pays homage to the house’s signature heritage hue. Epsom leather, known for its lightweight durability and defined grain, enhances the color’s intensity and maintains a crisp silhouette over time. Accented with warm gold hardware, this 2023 “B” stamp Kelly Mini arrives in 1 – Pristine condition with full set, making it an exceptional find for both collectors and first-time buyers.
Collector's Insight:
Mini Kellys continue to top global wishlists, and the Orange colorway, paired with gold hardware, embodies the maison’s legacy. With Sellier structure and full set, this example is collectible.
Resale Insight:
The market demand for Kelly bags, particularly in the 20cm size, continues to outpace supply. This specific configuration is a staple for collectors seeking a balance of heritage and contemporary style.
