The story behind the Kelly
Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.

The Mini II is the Kelly at 20 cm, its Sellier shape set by the short top handle, the tapered sides and the stitching along the outer edges. The strap meets the turn-lock at center front, two gold rings hold the handle, and four gold feet protect the base. A detachable leather shoulder strap clips to those rings, another way to carry it without changing the clean outline.
Box is polished to a high gloss and is rigid when new, so even at this size the edges keep a crisp line. The luster deepens over years of use.

The compact handle and shallow profile distinguish the Mini II from the larger Kelly sizes. The smooth surface brings the outline and edge stitching into focus.
Resale Insight:
Interior impressions should be assessed alongside the exterior panels, corners and handle. A clean exterior alone does not establish unused condition.
