The story behind the Constance
In 1967, Jean-Louis Dumas asked a designer to create a bag for Hermès; she named it after her newborn daughter, Constance. A structured shoulder bag defined by its H clasp, which opens on a spring mechanism hidden at each side of the bar and serves as both closure and signature. Produced in Mini (18 cm), standard (24 cm) and Élan (approximately 25 cm); a Micro at approximately 14 cm has appeared in limited production runs.
Discover Hermès Constance BagsLike the most sought-after Himalayans, every Ombre Constance is unique; each skin’s distinctive rings and gradations reflect Hermès’ devotion to unmatched materials and painstaking selection. This 18cm edition features especially well-defined, symmetrical rings and a perfect ombré fade that transitions to white at the edges, a textbook example of the best Hermès lizard craftsmanship.
The addition of gold hardware elevates the rarity even further. For years, Ombre Lizard Constances were almost exclusively produced with palladium hardware; the introduction of gold is a smart evolution, as the lizard’s pale tones will gently warm over time, harmonizing beautifully with the gold’s radiance. This piece remains store-fresh, in 1 – Pristine condition, its colors vivid and untouched, straight from the Hermès ateliers in Pantin. For collectors, it is both a grail and a statement in natural elegance, a bag that will only deepen in allure and value.
Collector's Insight:
Lizard production is constrained by raw material scarcity and limited annual output. Allocation within Hermès exotic bag production is among the most selective in the house.
Resale Insight:
Accessories in high-demand colors and materials like this continue to see strong performance on the secondary market due to limited boutique availability.
