The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.

Porosus crocodile is made in smaller quantities than calfskin, and pairing it with Doblis suede in one Birkin is an uncommon combination, here from the mid-1990s.
Resale Insight:
Porosus crocodile and Doblis suede age on opposite terms: the crocodile is durable and the suede is not. That makes the pairing difficult to replace, because examples in good condition thin out over time, and buyers check the suede panels for flattened nap and marks first.
