The Birkin En Désordre is the quieter half of the En Désordre project, and the half that never walked. The Kelly version appeared on the Autumn-Winter 2022 runway; the Birkin was released without a show, which is part of why fewer people know it exists. The intervention is a single deliberate misalignment: a half flap set on the diagonal, with an exterior pocket beneath it, cutting across a silhouette that has been symmetrical since 1984.

The leathers do the rest of the work. Togo forms the body, its raised pebbled grain giving the panel structure and weight, while Swift is used for the flap and the pocket, smooth and fine-grained with a soft sheen. Placing the softer, glossier leather on the elements that break the line is what makes the asymmetry legible rather than accidental: the eye reads a texture change and a shape change at the same point. In Noir the contrast is entirely tactile, since both leathers are the same colour and only the surface tells them apart.

Sellier construction holds it together. External saddle stitching and rigid panels keep the diagonal exactly where it was drawn, where a Retourne build would round the edge and lose the tension the design depends on. Cool metal suits a bag doing something deliberately restrained.

Collector's Insight: The Birkin En Désordre was produced in small numbers and in few colours, and unlike the Kelly version it had no runway moment to build recognition, which keeps the audience narrower and better informed. Two leathers on one bag also means two supply constraints and a matched-dye requirement across different tanning processes, which is why the combination appears in so few colourways. Unlike the Kelly En Désordre, this model retains the lock, keys and clochette.

Resale Insight: This is not priced against a standard Birkin 30 Sellier, because the buyer is not choosing between them. Comparables come only from the closed run, and the Swift-and-Togo Noir configuration is among the more pursued of them, so appearances tend to place quickly rather than sit. Condition on the Swift elements governs value more tightly than on the Togo body, since a smooth calfskin on a flap records handling that a pebbled grain would absorb.
