Gris Mouette, named for the seagull, is a clean, light gray with slightly blue undertones, a truer gray than the house's taupe-leaning neutrals.

The story behind the Birkin

Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.

Discover Hermès Birkin Bags

On Togo the pebbled grain catches light unevenly, giving the pale color subtle depth.

Gold hardware adds warmth against the cool gray, and at 30 cm the Birkin carries a full day's essentials.

Collector's Insight:
Gris Mouette returns in cycles rather than staying in continuous production, and it gives a gray Birkin a cleaner, cooler cast than the house's taupe-leaning grays.

Resale Insight:
Pale Togo shows color transfer and soiling, so buyers check the corners and base for wear and the handles for darkening.
