The Haut à Courroies is the oldest bag in the house, designed in 1892 to carry a saddle and riding boots, and the direct ancestor of the Birkin. This 1998 example pairs a Denim canvas body with Naturelle Vache Liégée at the flap, handles, sangles, and corners. Vache Liégée is a pressed cowhide with a distinct raised grain and firm hand, chosen historically for luggage because it holds structure and resists wear better than softer calfskins. In Naturelle it reads warm honey against the indigo twill.

At 50cm this is a genuine travel bag rather than a handbag, taller and deeper than any Birkin, and the canvas body cuts significant weight against all-leather construction at this volume. Gold hardware warms the utilitarian materials.
