Hermès Shoulder Birkin 42 JPG Rose Tyrien Shiny Porosus Crocodile Palladium Hardware
Hermès Shoulder Birkin 42 JPG Rose Tyrien Shiny Porosus Crocodile Palladium Hardware
The Shoulder Birkin is Jean Paul Gaultier's horizontal reinterpretation of the Birkin, designed during his tenure as Hermès creative director. The proportions shift wider than tall, with compressed height and an elongated base, and the format tucks under the arm rather than hanging from the hand. This is the 42cm original JPG size, with the hardware configuration that distinguishes early production from the later JPG II revision.
Rose Tyrien is Hermès' saturated fuchsia-magenta, one of the most vivid pinks the house produces. On shiny Porosus the color gains intensity, the high-gloss finish reflecting light across each scale to amplify the saturation. Porosus crocodile (Crocodylus porosus, the saltwater crocodile) shows the finest, most uniform scale of the crocodilian skins. The interior is lined in Fuchsia Chèvre, and Palladium hardware cools the warm pink slightly against the high-shine surface.
Q □ (2013) places this in the square-stamp era. Excellent condition at over a decade old, which indicates careful ownership given that shiny exotics record wear immediately. Full set with CITES documentation.

Collector's Insight:
The JPG Shoulder Birkin in exotic skin is genuinely rare, since most production of the format appeared in standard leathers. Rose Tyrien in shiny Porosus sits at the intersection of a discontinued format and a scarce material in a statement color, with effectively no direct comparable in standard Birkin production. Collectors tracking Gaultier-era Hermès treat the exotic Shoulder Birkins as reference pieces of his tenure.
Resale Insight:
Exotic JPG Birkins trade to a defined collector segment seeking both the Gaultier format and premium materials, a narrower but committed buyer pool than standard exotic Birkins. The color-and-format combination has no production analog, which places valuation on rarity rather than comparable transactions, and excellent condition with full set and CITES supports cross-border resale at this tier.
