The story behind the Constance
In 1967, Jean-Louis Dumas asked a designer to create a bag for Hermès; she named it after her newborn daughter, Constance. A structured shoulder bag defined by its H clasp, which opens on a spring mechanism hidden at each side of the bar and serves as both closure and signature. Produced in Mini (18 cm), standard (24 cm) and Élan (approximately 25 cm); a Micro at approximately 14 cm has appeared in limited production runs.
Discover Hermès Constance BagsThe Constance 14 Micro is the smallest production Constance, debuted around 2018-2019 and among the most allocation-restricted formats in the Constance catalog. Niloticus Lizard (Varanus niloticus, dash symbol) carries the tightest scale grid in the Hermès exotic palette, with the agate-buffed surface producing glossy depth that maximizes Bleu Saphir's saturated navy with subtle violet undertones. Lizard Micro is exceptionally scarce because the smaller yield from a single lizard hide limits how many Micro pieces can be cut per skin. The H-clasp is the defining design element of the Constance, debuted in 1969 and unchanged since. Gold hardware introduces warm metallic contrast against the deep saturated blue.
Collector's Insight:
Constance 14 Micro is the most allocation-restricted Constance format, with annual production a fraction of the Constance 18 or 24. Lizard Micro compounds the restriction, since exotic skin yields meaningfully fewer Micro pieces per hide than standard formats. Bleu Saphir on Niloticus Lizard is a pulled allocation across both color and species cycles.
Resale Insight:
Micro and mini Hermès exotics consistently outpace standard production in secondary market premium, with comparable supply for lizard Constance Micro at any specific color essentially below collector interest. Complete export documentation supports cross-border resale at this tier. Pristine W-stamp 2024 production with plastic still on hardware captures the freshest possible end of comparable inventory.
