The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsBirkin 25 in Vert Émeraude Shiny Niloticus Crocodile with Gold hardware. Vert Émeraude is a deep, saturated emerald green that gains depth on shiny crocodile, with darker tones settling between scales and brighter green catching on the raised tile centers. Niloticus Crocodile is identified by the double-dot (..) stamp, with slightly rounder, larger scales than Porosus. Gold hardware warms the green.
D stamp, 2019 production. Pristine condition.
Collector's Insight:
Vert Émeraude occupies a specific position in the Hermès green spectrum, darker and more formal than the bright greens. Shiny Niloticus at Birkin 25 scale produces a compact surface where the scale pattern reads in tight proportion to the bag's dimensions. Gold hardware on jewel-tone exotics is the traditional pairing.
Resale Insight:
Exotic Birkin 25s in saturated jewel tones with Gold hardware are among the most sought-after configurations on the secondary market. Shiny Niloticus in a current jewel green at this size trades at a premium to neutral-color equivalents.
