The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsThe Birkin 25 in Bleu Marine and Rose Scheherazade Matte Alligator with Palladium hardware. Alligator Mississippiensis features wider, flatter scales than crocodile, with a distinctive umbilical scar pattern. The hide takes dye exceptionally well.
The 25cm is the most compact option in the standard Birkin range, balanced silhouette. Interior is lined in matching Chèvre leather with one zip pocket and one open pocket. Signature turn-lock closure, front flap, and sangles complete the hardware configuration.
Collector's Insight:
Matte Alligator production is constrained by raw material scarcity and limited annual output. Allocation within Hermès exotic bag production is among the most selective in the house.
Resale Insight:
The Birkin 25 is among the most consistently traded formats in the resale market. In a durable skin like Matte Alligator, it is a piece that holds value exceptionally well through daily use.
