The story behind the Kelly

Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.

The second of the pair: same ember red, same shiny Porosus, same gold hardware, same 2020 Y stamp as the Kelly 28 Sellier in the vault, one size up. The 32 is the classic Kelly proportion, and Sellier construction holds its crisp edges against the structure the exotic hide brings.

Interior is lined in matching Chevre leather with one zip pocket and two slip pockets. Single top handle with detachable shoulder strap.

Collector's Insight:
Sellier Porosus at 32 requires flawless scale symmetry across a rigid frame with no margin for error, and Braise amplifies every panel decision: saturated color hides nothing at this scale.

Resale Insight:
Two sizes of one exotic configuration from a single production year, held together, is the kind of set that assembles once and never again. Collectors who take the pair take a position no restocking can repeat.
