The story behind the Kelly

Created in the 1930s by Robert Dumas as a women's bag with straps: a trapezoid with two triangular gussets, a cutout flap, a handle and two side straps. It took the Kelly name in 1956, when Grace Kelly made it famous. Sellier construction keeps the seams on the outside for a more defined outline; Retourné construction turns them inside for softer edges. The leather does not decide the construction: Box calf Kellys are recorded in both.

Braise, the ember red of the exotic register, in shiny Porosus on the Kelly 28 Sellier. External stitching holds the crisp architecture, the agate-polished finish turns the saturation to glass, and gold completes the warm register from skin to metal. Porosus, sourced from Australian saltwater crocodiles, carries the smallest, most symmetrical scales in the hierarchy.

Interior is lined in matching Chevre leather with one zip pocket and two slip pockets. Single top handle with detachable shoulder strap.

Collector's Insight:
Some colors are reserved exclusively for Hermès exotic skins, produced in small numbers over long periods, which makes them both rare and permanent. Braise is one of them, and the 28 is the Kelly proportion that moves from day to evening without adjustment.
