Hermès Birkin 40 Vert Émeraude Shiny Porosus Crocodile Palladium Hardware
Hermès Birkin 40 Vert Émeraude Shiny Porosus Crocodile Palladium Hardware
Porosus is the house's premier crocodile, marked on the leather with a caret. Vért Émeraude is a saturated jewel green built to hold the depth of the stone it is named for, and the Lisse finish is what makes that possible: the skin is burnished by hand with an agate stone until the surface returns light rather than absorbing it, lifting the pigment's transparency instead of flattening it. On a matte hide the same green reads closer to bottle.
Scale is the real constraint at 40 centimetres. A bag this size needs a hide large enough to yield unbroken panels, and the larger the required surface, the higher the odds that a scar, a bite mark or an irregular scale row disqualifies it. Most exotic orders are placed at 25 or 30, so the raw material for a 40 competes against a smaller pool of qualifying skins on behalf of a smaller number of clients.

Collector's Insight: Vert Émeraude appears intermittently rather than as a standing palette color, so its application to a 40 puts two separate scarcities on one bag. The travel sizes were never the volume of the line and have thinned further as the market moved toward 25 and 30, which makes a large-format exotic in a jewel tone a production pattern the house no longer repeats at any real number.
Resale Insight: Large-format exotics reach a narrower audience than the 25 and 30, and they surface infrequently enough that each appearance largely sets its own reference rather than being measured against a run of comparables. The buyer is typically a collector who wants the travel scale specifically, or one assembling a range of exotic colorways, rather than someone choosing a first Hermès.
