The story behind the Birkin
Originated in 1984 from a conversation between Jane Birkin and Hermès Executive Chairman Jean-Louis Dumas; its structural lineage traces to the Haut à Courroies. Familiar sizes are 25, 30, 35 and 40 cm, alongside miniature, shoulder and travel versions, in both Retourné and Sellier construction.
Discover Hermès Birkin BagsThe Birkin 30 in Rose Pourpre Shiny Porosus Crocodile with Palladium hardware. Porosus Crocodile is sourced from Australian saltwater crocodiles and is considered the finest crocodile skin available, distinguished by its small, symmetrical scales.
The 30cm is the balanced silhouette valued for its capacity as a functional day bag. Interior is lined in matching Chèvre leather with one zip pocket and one open pocket. Signature turn-lock closure, front flap, and sangles complete the hardware configuration.
Collector's Insight:
Shiny Porosus Crocodile production is constrained by raw material scarcity and limited annual output. Allocation within Hermès exotic bag production is among the most selective in the house.
Resale Insight:
The Birkin 30 is among the most consistently traded formats in the resale market. In a durable skin like Shiny Porosus Crocodile, it is a piece that holds value exceptionally well through daily use.
