The Haut a Courroies (HAC) Birkin, named "belt top" in French, was the original template from which the iconic Birkin bag evolved. The HAC was first conceptualized in the nascent years of Hermès as a spacious bag, designed specifically for saddle transportation. Over a century since its inception, the HAC has witnessed numerous renditions in terms of size and material, often paralleling the contemporary designs of the Birkin bags. A distinct example from this lineage is the 32cm HAC Birkin from 1999, meticulously maintained and in near-pristine condition. This handbag-sized HAC boasts of Blue Jean Gulliver leather — a vintage analogue of the modern Swift leather. The clever nomenclature, Gulliver, pays homage to Jonathan Swift, the author of Gulliver's Travels. Paired with matching blue denim canvas, the bag is elegantly accented by Palladium hardware. A subsection of Hermès connoisseurs favors the smaller HAC Birkins over their regular counterparts due to their unique proportions and expansive interior space.
